The Lenzing Group stands for the eco-responsible production of high-quality, specialty fibers. With wood as our natural resource, Lenzing’s solutions are as inventive as they are effective when it comes to caring for our partners’ success, our planet’s protection and people’s needs in everyday life. Lenzing uses the natural and renewable raw material wood, transforming sunlight and carbon dioxide in the natural process of photosynthesis. LENZING™ Fibers have the ability to break down (to compost/to biodegrade), safely and quickly and disappear to the natural environment. Thus, they can fully revert back to nature.

The LENZING™ Lyocell production process is distinguished by its conversion efficiency and closed loop design, which recovers, purifies and reuses the process solvent and process water. Lenzing has consistently improved the Lyocell production process, reducing specific energy consumption and increasing manufacturing efficiency. The LENZING™ Lyocell production process received the European Commission Technology Award for Sustainable Development. In 2021, the Lenzing Group was awarded the coveted EcoVadis “Platinum” Status, placing it in the top 1% of companies assessed for sustainability and corporate social responsibility metrics.

Key capabilities

Fibers are a key component of many types of filter media. A broad range of LENZING™ Lyocell and LENZING™ Viscose fibers are available for application within a filtration product portfolio. Finer fibers are known to be advantageous when targeting high filtration efficiency at fine particle sizes. LENZING™ Lyocell fibers are commercially available as specialty shortcut grades, optimized for utilization in wetlaid nonwoven processes. The cellulosic composition of these LENZING™ Lyocell shortcut fibers contributes to compatibility with natural cellulosic and synthetic fibers and binders.

LENZING™ Lyocell fibers comprise a highly ordered and aligned internal structure, which can be modelled as a collection of macro-fibrils within a single filament. Sub-micron diameter fibrils can be liberated from the filament surface by wet abrasion during a refining process prior to the papermaking process.

Commercially available LENZING™ Lyocell fibrillated fibers may be directly incorporated into filter media formulations to significantly enhance performance attributes of sheet materials including pore structure, permeability, filtration performance, mechanical properties, chemical resistance and formation.

Commercial applications for LENZING™ Lyocell-based filter media range from lightweight papers for teabags and coffee filters, through pleatable media for industrial and automotive filters, to heavyweight depth filter sheets for food and beverage filtration.
